The Modrica oil derivatives refinery in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has invited bids for a feasibility study and project design for a solar power plant with up to 6.3 MW of capacity.

According to tender documentation posted on its website last week, the Modrica refinery, which is part of the Optima Group, requires potential partners to create a conceptual design that will include an estimate of the peak and baseload power of the power plant, and the amount of energy it will produce.

The power plant needs to be designed and built on undeveloped land within the industrial complex. Interested parties can submit their bids by 31 March.

Ten years ago, the refinery was among the first in the Western Balkans to put into operation a 105 kW solar power plant which produced a small amount of electricity for self-consumption.

The major shareholder in the Optima Group is the Russian state-owned oil company Zarubezhneft.
