WPD inks concession deals for 264 MW of wind capacity in BiH

Germany’s WPD inked a memorandum of understanding and two concession contracts for 264 MW of wind capacity with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) Canton 10 on Monday, it said on its website.
WPD’s local branch Vjetroelektrane Dah Planine won the concession rights to build the 138 MW Cadilj and 126 MW Marino Brdo wind farms in July.The first wind farm will be built in the south-western municipality of Glamoc, while the second one will be in the western Grahovo municipality.
“Obtaining concessions is a prerequisite in BiH for all permits required for the realisation of a project. In addition, access to state-owned land in the project area is linked to the possession of a concession,” WPD said in its statement.
The company added that government representatives had highlighted the excellent cooperation they had with WPD in project planning and concession contract negotiations, underlining their support for the development of more renewable energy projects.
“On this basis, we are striving for further concessions for projects with more than 1,000 MW of installed capacity,” WPD noted in the statement.
The WPD statement concludes by underscoring that the company has so far built four wind farms in Croatia with a total installed capacity of 92 MW through its subsidiary, WPD Adria. It has also expanded its activities in the Western Balkans and now has more than 1,500 MW of capacity planned in Croatia, BiH, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
