Talking to other people, sharing ideas and experience can be very inspiring. Networking is an important thing, said Sebastian Siuchta, Business Creation Officer Central & Eastern Europe from InnoEnergy Central Europe Sp. z o.o., at the En.ekonomika & Industrija 018 conference on Thursday in Ljubljana. Siuchta was presenting a number of business examples and networking opportunities in relation to InnoEnergy, the biggest global cleantech accelerator.

HEPTA - autonomous utility management system

The first example Siuchta mentioned was HEPTA, an autonomous utility management system. The challenge is related to high costs and the maintenance of power line analysis, while the solution brings smart grids into grid inspection by turning expensive airborne analysis into an automated turnkey solution.

BIN-e: Smart waste bin

People don’t want to bother with segregating waste, there is no recycling infrastructure, waste segregation is time- and space-consuming, and waste costs are high. The solution can be found in BIN-e: an IoT–based self-segregating waste management device, which automatically compresses waste and has a data collection function and fill level control.

Enetech - store and transport heat and waste heat recovery

The challenges are energy efficiency and the implementation of energy audits. The Enetech Heat Storage and Transport Tank allows the storage and transport of heat over short distances of up to 30kms. By maximising the heat capacity, heat recovery and transport using this type of container becomes cost effective. Thus, the recovered heat could be used in heating applications.

POLYGEN: Ground-breaking synthetic natural gas plant

Many local thermal power companies (PEC-e) – mainly from Central and Eastern Europe – are facing a problem of decreasing profitability, whilst companies are also obliged to observe the emission standards. One solution is linked to low-emission electricity and heat from waste, whereby locally available biomass and other solid fuels will be obtained, said Siuchta, adding that the gasification and methanisation processes make it possible to produce synthetic natural gas (SNG) even during summer.

Networking is an important thing

“We bring people together, let them exchange ideas, and inspire them to co-operate and create new things”, said Siuchta.

Business Booster coming to Copenhagen on 17-18 October

The Business Booster is the world’s leading event for sustainable energy innovation. It brings together more than 700 attendees from over 30 countries. The next event will be held in Denmark on 17-18 October.

“Speed Dating”

“Speed Dating” is linked to venture capital community and is facilitating the interaction between investors and startups, explained Siuchta. Fifty-two cases were presented by date and there were five investments with many more on the radar. The actual success rate, according to Siuchta, is 10%. This is five-times the industry average of around 2%.

PowerUp!

This is a start-up competition in 24 countries, including Slovenia, said Siuchta. It is the biggest competition for cleantech, energy, mobility and smart technology startups in Central and Eastern Europe.

Primer

Primer is a non-equity, free pre-acceleration programme that helps early stage startups from Central and Eastern Europe to overcome the most common challenges and obstacles in the energy sector and beyond, explained Siuchta. The programme is based on 40 hours of theory, practical workshops and mentoring sessions led by experienced professionals and mentors.

InnoEnergy at a glance

InnoEnergy is the biggest global cleantech accelerator. It was established in 2010 and now has six regional offices in Europe with 24 shareholders. It also has 385 additional partners which have developed very important energy solutions for a cleaner environment, said Siuchta, adding that its slogan ‘Think Global, Act Global’ is valid for the current status of the energy industry.
