The Serbian government further streamlined the bureaucratic procedures for power prosumers on Thursday, the country's energy ministry said in a statement.
The decree on modifications and amendments to the regulation on prosumers will further shorten the procedure and reduce costs for customers who use all of the electricity generated by their own solar plants only for their own consumption and do not deliver excess energy to the transmission or distribution system, said the ministry. In this case, citizens or business entities with prosumer status are obliged to submit to the supplier a request for the conclusion of a full supply contract or a supply contract with certain amounts of electricity for each accounting period during the supply period, thus simplifying the procedure for this category.
High and volatile power prices as well as Serbia’s renewable energy law, enacted in 2021, have made solar power more attractive to investors and consumers.
So far, 60 households and 8 business consumers have won the prosumer status in Serbia with a total of 2.12 MW installed rooftop solar capacity, the ministry said.
Requests for another 25 MW of capacity have been submitted to the Serbian power distribution company EPS Snabdevanje, it added.
Serbia’s energy ministry believes that 4-6 GW of power production capacity could be harnessed if the potential of rooftop solar is fully tapped.
