The founder of Tesla and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on Twitter last week that he will donate a USD 100 million (EUR 82.34 million) prize for development of the best technology to capture carbon dioxide emissions, reports Reuters.

Capturing planet-warming emissions is becoming a critical part of many plans to keep climate change in check, but very little progress has been made on the technology to date, with efforts focused on cutting emissions rather than taking carbon out of the air.

Musk later wrote in a second tweet that details will be announced this week, added Reuters.

1 USD = 0.82 EUR
