ERS power utility invites EU companies to move production to BiH

The ERS power utility in Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) Republika Srpska entity is looking to take advantage of its low labour costs and proximity to the EU as supply chain disruptions hit Western European markets.
Its general manager Luka Petrovic told the television broadcaster RTRS on Friday that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and lockdowns in China, many EU companies were now thinking of moving some of their production capacity to the Western Balkans.Petrovic pointed out that the power utility was preparing a programme which could offer long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) to such companies at favourable prices.
“We want to offer companies [the opportunity] to come to our area and create jobs here. This is something that we will present in the next month,” said Petrovic.
In line with its ten-year strategy promulgated two years ago, ERS plans to invest nearly EUR 1.3bn by 2029 with the aim of adding 1 GW of renewable energy capacity to its portfolio.
The utility currently operates two coal-fired power plants, as well as three large and several small hydropower plants.
