The Romanian government plans to launch two state-aid schemes in September aimed at supporting green projects of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and local communities, each with a budget of EUR 500m.This was confirmed by Romanian investments and European projects minister Ioan-Marcel Bolos last week, according to a press release from the government.
Under the first scheme, SMEs will be able to apply for EUR 50,000-500,000 in grants for projects aimed at decreasing their energy consumption or for energy production from renewables.
The second scheme will be aimed at local communities, which will able to apply for EUR 0.5m-5m in grants to cover supplemental expenditures related to their energy consumption or EUR 5m-15 for projects aimed at producing renewable energy.
The schemes will be financed from the 2014-2020 EU budget. The Romanian government hopes that the new schemes will contribute to increasing the absorption rate of European funding from the current 62% to over 90%.
