Italian steelmaker AFV Beltrame Group is planning to build a solar farm with 100-120 MW of capacity at the site of its recently acquired COS Targoviste steel plant in southern Romania, local media reports.
One of the largest producers of steel bars and special types of steel in Europe, Beltrame completed the acquisition of COS Targoviste’s operational production assets in March. The company aims to invest EUR 100m in modernising the steel plant over the next five years and another EUR 100m on the construction of a solar farm and energy storage system.
A possible construction timetable for the solar farm was not provided.
Beltrame is also in the final stages of authorising the construction of a green rebar and wire rod plant, which will be built at the Targoviste site as well. The completion of this plant is expected in 2024.
Beltrame has been present in Romania through its subsidiary Donalam since 2007.
