Albania has granted permission for the construction of another 10 MW solar farm in the coastal region of Fier, the government said in a statement on Thursday.

The company EZ-F Energy plans to build the solar farm in the village of Povelce, which is close to the Adriatic coast.

In February, the same company was given permission to build another 10 MW solar farm in the same region.

The solar farm must be operational within a two-year deadline, otherwise EZ-F Energy will lose its licence.

Despite having one of the most favourable sunshine ratios in Europe, Albania had only managed to install 23 MW of solar capacity by the end of last year.

According to a 2021 report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), Albania has 220 sunshine days per year, giving it 2,700 hours of adequate sunshine to feed solar panels for electricity production.

It also has the technical potential to install 2,378 MW of solar capacity by 2030, says the report.
