Kosovo extends 100 MW solar auction until 16 October
Date: September 27th 2023
The deadline for Kosovo’s 100 MW solar auction, which was announced in May, will be delayed again until 16 October, the country’s energy ministry told Montel on Wednesday. The auction’s original closing date was 15 August, but this was then extended until 29 September.
In its statement to Montel, the energy ministry confirmed the new deadline with the explanation that more time was needed to prepare the bidding documents given that more than 170 potential investors had shown interest in participating.
Successful bidders will be offered a 35-year land lease, a 15-year power purchase agreement and a grid connection.
This is the first renewables auction to be held in Kosovo. Previously, the country used a feed-in tariff system, which was suspended in 2020.
The government has said that if this auction is successful, it will serve as the model for further auctions, both solar and wind projects.
With less than 300 MW of installed wind, solar and hydropower capacity, Kosovo has the smallest renewable energy portfolio in the Western Balkans.
