The first private energy aggregator in Serbia, the Green Balancing Group (GBG), plans to offer more than 110 GWh of electricity via Serbia’s power bourse Seepex this year, its CEO told Montel on Monday.

Aleksandar Stefanovic said in a written response to Montel that the company, which joined Seepex this month, has so far managed to contract more than 30 MW of capacity from small renewable energy producers.

GBG, which focuses primarily on small renewable energy producers, aims to continue its expansion and capacity increase, said Stefanovic.

Aggregators or virtual power plants (VPP) provide a new mode of system balancing that connects decentralised power sources, consumers and storage systems, offering end-users the opportunity to participate in the power market.

The Vienna-based Energy Community, which transposes EU energy standards to neighbouring countries, said in September that the main barriers to the integration of more flexibility sources are the market design of its contracting parties and the fact that aggregation is still not properly recognised.
