Renewables developer Qair Montenegro has submitted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the 46.55 MW Rudine solar farm in the western Niksic municipality, according to the Montenegrin environmental protection agency Epa.

The capacity of the solar facility we be less than the 50 MW originally planned, Epa said in a notice on its website late on Thursday.

According to the EIA, the developer intends to deploy bifacial solar panels which can generate an estimated 73 GWh of electricity per year. The solar farm will cover an area of nearly 21 hectares and be connected to a 100 kV transmission line.

The Niksic municipality has the potential to develop more than 2.7 GW of renewables without any negative environmental impact, according to a pilot study conducted by environmental protection NGO The Nature Conservancy.
