The Montenegrin government has issued urban planning and technical requirements for the construction of up to 118.8 MW of wind and 2.96 MW of hydropower capacity, it said in a statement on Thursday.

The 118.8 MW Bijela wind farm will be built in the north-western Savnik municipality by the local Podgorica-based company Vjetropark Bijela, which was established in October 2022.

Montel has not been able to contact the company for further information about the project.

According to the government’s statement, urban planning and technical requirements have been also issued to the state-run power utility EPCG for the 2.96 MW Otilovici hydropower plant on the Cehotina river near the northern town of Pljevlja.

Previously, the utility won a 30-year concession for the project.

The small hydropower facility is forecast to produce 11.5 GWh of electricity a year and its cost has been estimated at around EUR 3.5m, according to the government. Its construction could take 18 months.
