Bosnian EPBiH seeks regulatory changes for new 56 MW solar capacity

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) largest power utility EPBiH aims to add 56 MW of solar capacity at the ash and slag deposit site of its 450 MW coal-fired power plant in the northern town of Tuzla.
The new capacity will consist of two solar power plants, Divkovici 1 and Divkovici 2, EPBiH said in a statement released after EPBiH’s management met with mayor of Tuzla, city officials and representatives from the nearby Kreka coal mines on Monday.The two solar plants, which should be connected to the national grid in 2024, will produce 72 GWh of electricity a year, data from the electricity TSO NOS BiH showed.
"The project received the city of Tuzla's full support and changes to the city's regulatory plan were agreed upon. Also, it was agreed that Tuzla's cantonal government would be jointly approached to address any existing obstacles related to the canton's spatial plan," said EPBiH.
These obstacles must be resolved before construction can begin, it added.
Earlier this year, EPBiH earmarked five, former open-pit coal mines, as well as some ash and slag deposit sites, for solar power projects as part of its long-term plan to gradually shut down its coal power facilities.
The utility says it aims to have fully transitioned to hydropower and renewables for power generation beyond 2050.
