The Austrian-based photovoltaic company CCE intends to build a 40 MW solar power plant in Romania’s western Arad region, the company said on Thursday.
The 40 MW solar plant will consist of around 75,000 high-performance photovoltaic modules and will be built in the commune of Horia. Construction is scheduled to start in 2023 and connection to the Romanian electrical grid is planned for the end of 2024.According to CCE, this new solar plant is the first of eight solar projects it has in its pipeline. The company currently has project rights in Romania for around 680 MW of solar capacity. The projects are at various stages of development, but the construction for all of them should begin by the end of 2023.
Once online, CCE’s Romanian solar plants are expected to produce electricity for more than 290,000 households.
“Romania is very committed to the expansion of renewable energies and its efforts are well above the European average. A very good grid structure and the will to accelerate the transformation towards green electricity thus make Romania an ideal market for us. We are pleased to be able to accompany this process,” CCE managing director for Romania Johannes Srajer said in the company’s press release.
