Energy Debate #1: Tighter 2030 Climate Targets and Carbon Market Developments
How do the current prices of CO2, gas, coal and oil impact power price fundamentals, and are the European Commission’s more ambitious climate targets already having an impact in this regard? This was one of the questions opened in the first Energetika.NET video energy debate, in which the speakers – Janez Kopač, Director of the Energy Community, Riham Wahba, Market Analyst at Vertis Environmental Finance, and Luka Jazbec, Head of Regulation and Compliance at GEN-I – talked about the bumpy road ahead due to the carbon market uncertainties. These uncertainties are also present in South East Europe (SEE), where the Western Balkan countries recently signed the so-called Sofia Declaration, thus endorsing the green agenda and regional market development.
