NEC to construct wind park in south-western Bulgaria
NECO, an electricity trading company in which Bulgaria's National Electricity Company owns 50 per cent of the shares, will construct 28 wind generators with a total capacity of 56 MW in south-western Bulgaria. The company has asked the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission to issue a five-year licence for electricity production and to modify the licence issued in 2009 for wind parks in Krumovgrad region, according to an expert report from the regulatory commission.

The application will be discussed on 23 February 2010. The park will be constructed on land from the national wood fund.,with an intended inauguration in January 2012.
NECO was created to sell electricity to end consumers in Greece. The Greek Damco Energy, a subsidiary of Copelouzos Group and Prometheus Gas, owns 25 per cent, as does the Russian Gazprom.

The SEWRC report notes that the Greek investors have established eight companies for wind park construction in southern Thrace, on four of the Cyclades and on islands of Crete and Rhodes. Yet, this year, NEC has said that there is no money provided for project realisation. The company’s intentions are to participate in the financing with 30 per cent and to look for other investors for the rest of the project cost.
In the year 2009, licensed wind parks with a total capacity of 72 MW were to be constructed close to Krumovgrad, to be completed until January this year, but doubts that they may be situated in a Natura 2000 zone arose. Their total value is close to 20 million euro.
