The government of Federation BiH adopted the decision on setting up and building one hydropower and two thermal power plants in line with the decision on declaration of public interest and the approach to preparation and construction of priority power facilities in Federation BiH.

Word is of the 23 MW Vranduk hydropower plant, the Kongora mine and thermal power plant (two 275 MW stations) and the 450 MW block 7 of the Tuzla thermal power plant. Elektroprivreda BiH has been granted consent to continue with the activities for setting up and building the Vranduk hydropower plant which will be financed partly from the company’s own funds and partly from loans. Federal government also gave a green light to granting concessions for building the respective hydropower plant, based on self-initiative of the Sarajevo-based power utility Elektroprivreda BiH d.d. as the bidder. Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry has been appointed the concessionaire in the negotiations and in the process of granting the concession.

Moreover, the power utility of the Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosnia (Elektroprivreda Hrvatske Zajednice Herceg Bosne) has been approved as the company who will be responsible for setting-up and construction of the power facility Kongora mine and thermal power plant, which will be financed through a joint venture, formed by the respective power utility and its strategic partners which will be selected by means of an international call for tenders. The partnership stipulates that Federation BiH remains the owner of natural resources, while the invested funds will be returned through electricity produced.

An international call for tenders for strategic partnership in building block 7 of the Tuzla thermal power plant will be published under the same terms. Elektroprivreda BiH which has been granted consent for the latter is going to form a joint venture in Tuzla with the prospective strategic partner, the objective of which will be to complete the project by 2017.
