New business opportunities in BiH are opening up for Velenje Coal Mine
After the visit of delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina at the headquarters of Velenje Coal Mine on Wednesday and Thursday this week, the company is convinced that new business opportunities are opening up for Velenje Coal Mine in the Southeastern region, since, after the completion of the Mramor project in Tuzla (BiH), they managed to establish good business relationship also on the Macedonian energy market.

Milan Medved, PhD., the Director of Velenje Coal Mine, presented to the visitors the situation related to the production and consumption of coal in the European Union, along with the trends in this field. Further on he made a detailed presentation of coal mining, equipment, methods of work, operational results and future plans of Velenje Coal Mine. At the end of the visit he said that the intention of Bosnia and Herzegovina to modernise the mines is solid, because the country has a large amount of coal reserves which will be a strategic advantage of that country in the future. Namely, Bosnia and Herzegovina has more than 4 billion tons of coal reserves.

According to him, a good example of such cooperation, transfer of knowledge and technology between the miners from Velenje and Tuzla as well as other experts, was cooperation in the Mramor project in Tuzla in terms of equipment and startup of the new mining operations in the Mramor pit. Medved also said that these mining operations are going well and are bringing good operational results.
The Director General of Elektroprivreda BiH Amer Jerlagic, the Executive Director for Production in Elektroprivreda Nihad Kadic, the Director of the Kreka Coal Mine in Tuzla Resad Husagic, PhD., and the Director of Breza Mine Camil Zaimovic were mainly interested in technical specifications and capacity of the mining equipment, reported the company.
Furthermore, the Director of Elektroprivreda BiH Amer Jerlagic has confirmed that the goal of Elektroprivreda BiH, in which seven coal mines were included last year, is to upgrade the coal industry to the greatest extent possible. In the next three years they are planning to invest about 150 million euros into these coal mines and the same amount is envisaged for the investments in the following three years. “I believe that extensive cooperation between EP BiH and Velenje Coal Mine can be expected in the next ten years.”
