The situation with the Nabucco gas pipeline project was the subject of recent talks among Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Traycho Traykov, the upper management of the Austrian gas company OMV AG and Reinhard Mitschek, managing director of Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH. The meeting was held in Vienna during the visit of the Bulgarian parliamentary delegation headed by Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov, Mediapool.bg reported last week.

Traykov proposed that the start to construction of the gas connection between Bulgaria and Turkey be sped up; this segment is to later on become part of the Nabucco gas pipeline. Construction of the connection would give a real start to the project and would allow Bulgaria and the European Union access to the gas resources of the Caspian region and the Middle East. The Austrian experts, in turn, presented to the minister the activities of the Central European Gas Hub (CEGH), in which OMV holds 80 per cent. Opportunities were discussed for the construction of such a trade platform of natural gas in Bulgaria. CEGH is one of the most important centres for gas trade in the region and, according to Traykov, the Austrian experience in building new gas hubs may be very useful to Bulgaria.
He also met with the management of the Federation of the Austrian Industry. Measures for supporting Austrian investments in Bulgaria were discussed and an earlier agreement for avoiding the double taxes was signed.
