On January 29, Elektroprivreda Srbije signed an important agreement with the consortium of the company Clyde Bergman and the companies GOSA Montaza and GOSA FOM, worth 17.85 million Euros. Forty per cent of the agreed sum will appertain to Serbian companies.

The respective agreement was signed by EPS Director General, Dragomir Markovic on behalf of Elektroprivreda Srbije, Dragan Jovanovic on behalf of thermal power plants and mines Kostolac and by Clyde Bergman on behalf of the consortium. The entire project – which will allow for environmental protection operations in the Kostolac energy basin to continue – will be financed by German development Bank KfW and EPS. KfW bank will participate with some 12 million Euros, while the rest of the funds will be provided by EPS who will cover the cost of domestic i.e. local companies that will be contracted for the works.

Word is about replacing the existing transport system for ash and slag by a low-pressure hydraulic system which will result in reduced impact on water, soil and air in the vicinity of thermal power plants.

This project in addition to the one regarding the reconstruction of electrostatic filters in thermal power plant Kostolac B will be completed by end 2010, while the works on both blocks are to be completed in 2011. With this, the Environmental Protection Action Plan for the Kostolac area will have been implemented.

Dragomir Markovic expressed his hopes that the entire deal would be completed within the foreseen timeframe. This was of high importance, as the projects in question would introduce modern ecological systems into thermal power plants. Markovic said that not only Elektroprivreda Srbije but also the entire local community would benefit from these improvements.
